Chapter 516 From the Devil

Chapter 516 From the Devil

Seed Bank

Constance Room

There were several people sitting around the table in the center of the room. In addition to Constance herself, there were some faces that had never been seen before. Even Butch, who had been disemboweled by Constance and resurrected with Howard's blood, joined in.

These people, including Constance, are leaders of different forces in the seed vault. The members of the seed vault are picked up one after another by many spaceships. Some spaceships sail for decades, so a miniature social structure is often formed on them, and an Alpha is born naturally.

Including Constance, these leaders can mobilize more than a thousand "pure humans" in total. The seed bank has existed for thousands of years, but during these thousands of years, the members of different spaceships who were accommodated here often became hostile to each other or had conflicts. As a result, the Helvinson family gradually relaxed their surveillance of these "pure humans", and this was the first time that they gathered together peacefully like today.

There was a map on the table where these people were sitting.

This map is made up of many napkins, which are sprayed with water to ensure that they will not loosen. A small part of the spacecraft structure is drawn in ink on each napkin. Although it is very unprofessional and its accuracy is questionable, it is not easy to roughly piece together a roughly usable map under such conditions.

Long before Howard came to Constance for help, she had already sent her own men to gather intelligence in this regard. Her men deliberately wandered around in places where they were not allowed, and then were discovered. As punishment, they were taken to new areas. After they came back, they narrated the information through memory, and someone drew it, and slowly pieced together the results we have today.

Some of the people sitting around the table are still completing or revising this map.

When the map was complete, Constance took a sip of the wine beside her—a wine her people had made from their hidden fruit stash and had shared with the others—and said:

"Everyone, I invite you here today to seek unity and fight against an unknown fate together."

None of the people attending the meeting responded. Even though they accepted the invitation and came here, most of them had doubts in their hearts. Constance wanted to drag them into the pirate ship with just one sentence. Nothing in the world is that easy.

"I know you're all wondering about my purpose, and even more so, the purpose of the person who brought us here." Constance looked around at the others. "My purpose is actually very simple: dignity and freedom. I absolutely do not want to be treated like an animal."

"Little girl," Constance said, and someone immediately mocked her, "Look at the environment you live in, the clothes you wear and the food you eat. You even drink fruit wine. Animals don't have such conditions. If I had such conditions, I would rather be an animal."

The man who mocked her had a small mustache, but his unassuming words elicited no opposition or boos, a testament to the attitude of most of the meeting's attendees. Dignity and freedom, in their view, were matters to be considered only after food and clothing were secured. They were well aware that many had only just begun eating properly cooked meat after arriving here.

"They're treating us well now," Constance said, not angry. "But, for every bit they give us, they'll definitely take away more in the future. Everyone, the family that brought us here is a large noble family. How many of the nobles you've met since childhood are kind and generous? Even if there are such nobles, they'd rather donate their money to the church than give it to people like you and me."

"But what can you take away?" Constance said, "Tools or labor don't need such preferential treatment. They must want something extraordinary from us, and the extraordinary things we possess... I'm afraid the only extraordinary things we possess are our lives and souls."

Although the participants still didn't say anything after hearing this, their eyes were no longer as calm as at the beginning, and their faces no longer looked as if they were indifferent.

Constance spoke out their inner fear, that is, who wanted to use them to do what? Many people actually knew that those who could come here had passed genetic testing and met certain "standards."

They are not actually very afraid if they are imprisoned or forced to do hard labor in the mines, because many of them lived like this before being selected. However, they still cannot accept it if they are used for human experiments or even as blasphemous sacrifices.

"Everyone, please take a look at this spaceship," Constance continued. "This spaceship was built so comfortably, so perfectly suited to our needs... But based on the usage traces, we're not the first guests on this spaceship, and perhaps we won't be the last... Everyone, please think about this: where did everyone go before?"

"Maybe the previous people just left for somewhere else." Someone finally couldn't help but speak up: "Miss, you and I have only just arrived here, and we don't have any access to outside information. Maybe the previous people left safely after completing certain conditions, and we just don't know about it."

"That's a possibility." Constance did not deny it, "But there's another possibility: they're all dead."

The room fell into silence. Constance deliberately delayed for a while before continuing:

"Overall, everyone's experience here should have been relatively smooth, but I encountered some incidents on my way here. A special guest boarded my spaceship midway, and later on, my ship was attacked by space pirates and creepy mechanical monsters. Yet, as if blessed by the gods, I miraculously escaped from a fatal situation." Constance briefly recounted his experience. "Later, when I arrived here, he found me again and asked us to help him find a spy hidden among us. In the end, he chose to have me kill Butch."

So everyone looked at Butch. They were not familiar with each other, but they were all leaders of their respective camps. Of course, they also needed to know who the leaders of other forces were, so they could still recognize each other.

Butch lifted the hem of his clothes. His abdomen had completely recovered. Although there were many scars on it, there was no wound left by Constance cutting open his stomach.

"I definitely felt it at the time," Butch said silently. "I felt the cold dagger piercing my abdomen, cutting open my stomach and breaking my intestines into pieces. I didn't feel any pain at the time. I just wanted to cover the wound, but I couldn't. In the end, I could only fall to the ground and feel my internal organs pouring out bit by bit."

"I thought I was going to die, but soon I regained my strength and got up from the ground, and then I found that my wound had healed." Butch continued: "After that I was very scared, so I ran away. Later I thought this terrible experience was my hallucination, but then I found that my clothes were also cut open, and I found this in my clothes."

As Butch said this, he took out a strip of paper wrapped in paper. When he opened it, he saw a piece of intestine that was beginning to rot.

Butch: "These are my intestines. I was probably dead."

He then lifted his sleeves, revealing the fresh wounds on them. "Later, I tried cutting my hands. At first, the cuts healed within a minute, but then gradually returned to normal. I think the power that resurrected me initially still remained within me, but I used it so much that it was consumed."

Butch's words did not shock the others present much, because they were the first to get the news about Butch's resurrection, so they were shocked at that time.

"Everyone." Constance knocked on the table, making herself the focus of attention again. "It was that man's blood that resurrected Butch. He took out his own blood and asked me to kill Butch. Then he smeared the blood on Butch's body, resurrecting the dead. This is an amazing miracle, but judging by the way he concealed his power, his power did not come from God, but from the devil."
