Chapter 608: The Enemy is coming.
Chapter 608: The Enemy is coming.
"We will see each other again."
The Stormcaller woman glared at Kael and before any of the other leaders could react or do anything about it—
She disappeared, leaving all the members of the ’hunting party’ alone.
For a moment, nobody moved.
Not the hunters.
Not the hunted.
Even the strong winds felt quieter, as if nature itself was surprised by what just happened and couldn’t move like it was supposed to.
Kael stood at the frontline of his army with a solemn look on his face, his eyes remained on the empty space where the Stormcaller woman once was and he clenched his fists.
He... wasn’t expecting this...
And it wasn’t just him, from the other Stormcallers’ faces, it was clear that they weren’t expecting it either. They didn’t even know about the existence of the teleportation crystal, let alone her plan of abandoning them if things took a wrong turn.
Kael was surprised too.
To think they would give her the rare teleportation crystal that even forces like Sky Kingdoms used scarcely.
’She must be important to them.’
Kael thought inwardly.
There was no other explanation for this.
These were the same beings who disappeared the moment he attacked them, they didn’t even try to help the Stormcallers and defend their lands, that alone made it clear that they didn’t particularly care about the Stormcallers.
But then...
Why her?
Why was she important?
Did she... know something...?
Kael wondered in his head and as he did, he thought about chasing her.
Teleportation Crystals were of different kinds, not every single one of them held enough Mana to send the user where they wanted, this was especially true when the distance one was required to travel was long.
Some Teleportation Crystals, once they reached their limits, only teleported the user in the direction of their destination.
Like the Stormcaller Leader in question, while she did teleport in the direction where the Stormcaller territory was, according to his ants, she only appeared about 250 kilometres away from where they currently were.
So in theory, Kael could chase her down.
According to his Ants,
With his speed,
Since she was valuable enough to receive a Teleportation Crystal, she must know a lot but...
As Kael thought about it, as he looked at his men and the men he captured, he realized his presence here was necessary.
His Army was still unstable, even the smallest mishap or even a misunderstanding might become the cause of something unspeakable—
He couldn’t leave.
He had no choice but to drop that plan.
As for that woman, he would think of something else and capture her another time, right now, he needed to deal with the ones he had captured.
So Kael sighed, then he looked at the ones who were left behind, especially the remaining Stormcaller Leaders, who had frozen in shock.
Their breathing was hard, their eyes were fixed on the spot where the woman was.
"She... had that?"
One leader whispered.
No one around him answered; they were too shocked to speak.
An Ironblood captain spat into the snow and glared in anger, not at Kael, but at the Stormcallers.
"You brought us here."
He spoke in a voice shaking with rage.
"You didn’t say she had an escape."
"You think we knew?"
Another Stormcaller Leader spoke up.
"It does no–"
The Ironblood Captain was about to say something, but before he could say anything–
"Don’t make me repeat myself.
Drop your weapons."
Kael announced in a cold voice.
The ’hunting party’ members froze, none of them daring to move.
The Ironblood captain’s fingers twitched as he continued to glare at the Stormcallers in anger, a Shadowstalker’s eyes moved to a crack in the rock, as if he was wondering if he could squeeze his body through it and escape.
But before he could plan it–
Kael raised his hand and suddenly, the very air around them stilled.
The wind stopped blowing entirely, every being present here, even the tribes who stood behind Kael, felt a heavy pressure pushing them down.
It was Cirri.
The Sky Dragon was still in her Sky Form and was now affecting the very air around every being here, making it a few times heavier.
It didn’t do anything in particular, in most cases, it was harmless, but the method was quite handy when it came to intimidation.
And it worked, because the moment the Shadowstalker felt the change around him, any ideas that were forming in his head disappeared on their own.
Everything that happened here had already left an unerasable impact on him, he looked at Kael and he no longer saw a man he wanted to kill.
He saw a God.
A God who couldn’t be fooled or outmatched.
A God who knew... everything.
So when Kael told them to surrender, to drop their weapons, he did exactly that.
He dropped his knife with a clank.
The sound echoed throughout the mountain path. Kael looked at him and he looked back, showing absolutely no intention of playing any tricks.
And as if he approved of it, Kael’s gaze no longer remained on him and moved to others.
One by one, more weapons hit the snow.
The enemy had surrendered, completely.
The ’Battle’ was over.
Or at least...
It should have been.
But it did not because suddenly–
’Father.’
Imperia called out in a solemn tone.
"Hm?"
Kael frowned, wondering if she had something else to tell him.
’The Enemy is marching at us.’
She revealed and the instant she did, Kael’s expression changed.
"What...?"
He narrowed his eyes.
This was one of the few times he could not hide his expression. Not that it made any difference, the men he captured were too involved wondering what their own fate would be than to keep tabs on the faces he made.
’An Army is marching towards the Wall, and they are fast.’
Imperia reported.
’What Army?’
Kael couldn’t help but frown. This time however, even Imperia did not know the accurate answer.
’That I do not know–
What I do know, however, is that the woman who disappeared had contacted someone using a communication crystal when she teleported away.
It seems that the army belongs to the other side.
Just that...’
Imperia paused for a moment, she herself couldn’t seem to make sense of it.
’What?’
’The Beasts these army men are mounted on...
They seem to be corrupted.’
’What...?’
